The other day in the office, a parent of an adolescent patient and I remembered our feelings as kids when our parents sat us down to discuss sex or drugs. We both agreed that our parent’s choice of words impacted how closely we listened. Now, with the rise in the use of e-cigs in the pre-adolescent and adolescent population, we, as parents, must learn the lingo around vaping to have a meaningful conversation and hopefully impact our kid’s decisions. Below is a great resource from the American Academy of Pediatrics covering some language, paraphernalia, and behaviors that a parent should be familiar with before starting this important conversation.

Good luck, and feel free to reach out with any questions.
